Anastacia
Newkirk was born on 17th September 1973 in New York to a
Brodway actor mother and father who was a singer on the
East Coast. Her talent and desire for being a performer
was not only in her genes, but help her embrace the form
of expression and passion that being an artist entails.
She dveloped a career as a dancer, appearing on Club MTV
and in such music videos as Salt-Npepa's Everybody Get
Up and Twist and Shout. In 1999, she was a finalist on
the MTV talent contest show The Cut, which attracted the
interest of record label. She signed to the Daylight
custom label of Sony Muic's Epic Records and recorded
her debut album, Not That Kind, which was released
internationally in 2000. The result was massive success:
the album reached the Top Ten in eight European and Far
East countries, selling over two million copies.
At home, the single I'm Outta Love became a dance hit,
paving the way forthe release of a revised version of
Not That Kind in the U.S. in March 2001. A year later,
she was creating a buzz in America. She joined Mary J.
Blige, Cher, Shakira and others for VH1's fifth annual
Divas Live showcase in May 2002. She made her proper
American debut with Freak of Nature in June. She claims
that as a young girl, she didn't want to be a singer,
but her future career was foreshadowed by Anatcia
singing along to her mother's Barbara Streisand and
Elthon John records and exercising her writing skills by
trying her heand at poetry.
After
meeting with the presidents of different record labels,
she finally signed with Daylight Records, one of Epic
Records' labels. Not That Kind, Anastacia's debut album,
was released on June 13, 2000, and has alredy spawned
the hit single I'm Outta Love. The album is in category
of its own blending pop, R&B, dance, rock, and
highlights Anastacia's unique, soulful voice that is
rarely found on a white woman. Rick Wake, who has worked
with such hit makers such as Marih Carey and Celine Dion
collaborates on the album as well.
Anastacia staggered audience in Pula's amphitheatre last
year. She made an unforgettable show. |
